Conference - Les rendez-vous de l'art - Le Dadaïsme
Médathèque Michel Crépeau - Salle de conférence (Grande salle Niveau 0)
17000 - La Rochelle
Lecture by Annabel Audureau, teacher and researcher.
Dada was born at the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich in 1916, at the heart of an intense cultural ferment in reaction to the First World War. The Dada movement elevated nonsense to the status of art, revolutionizing the artistic gesture by practicing anti-art, as Tristan Tzara's manifesto and Duchamp's urinal would soon testify, proposing a fundamental aesthetic break. The heart of the movement soon spread from Zurich to the whole of Europe and across the Atlantic to New York, where it represented modern art. The German Dadaists turned it into a means of more political expression, while in France, its representatives rubbed shoulders with the Littérature group, heralding the advent of Surrealism.

In partnership with the Association Rochelaise des amis de l'Université.
