Discover never-before-seen archive photos of the liberation of La Rochelle after the war.
To mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation, the town, in collaboration with the Grand Port Maritime, will be presenting a travelling exhibition featuring previously unseen archive documents on the liberation and the traces left by the occupation, both in the town and in the seaport.
The focus is on the impact of the war on the city, and in particular on the commercial port, which was profoundly altered during this period. The exhibition, comprising ten large panels with captioned photos, was conceived and designed by Christophe Bertaud, a local councillor and port history enthusiast, and the Municipal and Community Archives.
The exhibition will be on view from April 20 to mid-June on the Allées du Mail, then on June 15 during "Open Port" day at the Grand Port Maritime. It will then be on display in the La Pallice district, notably as part of the Heritage Days, until September 22.
