"The project here is part of an investigation into an omnipresent motif, both in the history of art and in our domestic spaces: the flower, the plant, the vegetable. It all began in a family setting. My father, a bricklayer by profession, built houses, while my mother, when she was younger, crocheted. Every Sunday, my father would buy a bouquet of flowers and place it on my mother's delicately crafted doilies. There was also this cactus, brought back from the family garden (in their countries), thousands of miles away, across two borders. These simple (but symbolically charged) personal memories fed my thinking about the presence of plants in our interiors, and how they cross time, culture and place to become part of our everyday lives."
