Nuit européenne des musées
Historic Various arts Saturday 17 May 2025 between 6 pm and 12 am.
The 21st European Museum Night invites you to (re)discover museums and their collections. A night full of surprises!
European Museum Night takes place in over 3,000 museums in almost 30 European countries! To mark the occasion, museums open their doors free of charge in the evening, offering a wide range of activities. A unique opportunity to discover permanent collections and temporary exhibitions. A program of artistic and cultural education, "La classe, l'œuvre!", run in partnership with the French Ministry of Education, enables schoolchildren to take part in mediation activities on this day.
Travel, travel!
The municipal museums: Natural History Museum, Maritime Museum and New World Museum, open their doors for the evening. A nocturnal visit to the museums full of surprises to discover the collections in a different way.
Activities, tours, readings, music and games for a great time with family and friends.
At the Musée du Nouveau Monde, the evening begins with music in the courtyard, with a quartet of transverse flutes and bassoons. The musicians will then perform in duets or quartets, for musical pastilles. Inside, students from the Art History class at Lycée Dautet in La Rochelle will present their favorite works.
At the Natural History Museum, mediators will guide visitors through the collections. You can take part in a quiz on birds. High-school students will be talking about biodiversity, and middle-school students will be showing the temporary exhibition Vanuatu, powers of women. A food truck will be set up in the Jardin des Plantes.
At the Musée Maritime, the evening will be marked by a number of activities: sail aboard the books, lulled by the waves and the scent of sea spray, with Les petites histoires de la mer at 6:30 p.m. for children up to 6 years old, and discover the history of meteorology and the France 1 weather ship with Cherche et trouve in the weather exhibition all evening long.
The La Rochelle Bunker is open from 7pm to 11:30pm with a flashlight to explore the history of La Rochelle from 1939 to 1945. The Musée Rochelais d'Histoire Protestante is open from 6pm to 11pm. It presents significant objects, books and archives on the history of Protestantism in La Rochelle and Aunis from the 16th to the 19th century. The Tour de la Lanterne will be open this year from 8.30pm to 11.30pm. A vestige of medieval maritime fortifications with an original architecture and Gothic spire, this former medieval lighthouse became a prison in the 17th century. Over 600 graffiti were left by prisoners over the centuries.
Free admission to museums and €7 to the La Rochelle Bunker.
