Catch as much floating waste as possible!
The team of volunteers from the EchoMer association lends a hand to the Blue Brigade of the Port, by surveying the pontoons equipped with landing nets.
Echo-Mer is an association dedicated to protecting the seas and coastal environment. Since 2001, we have been organizing collections of used materials, such as boat sails, corks and oyster bags, to give them a second life. We also run educational initiatives aimed at schoolchildren and the general public, organizing events to raise awareness of eco-citizen practices.

Since spring 2020, three times a week, a team of volunteers from the Echo-Mer association has been lending a hand to the Port's Blue Brigade, plying the pontoons equipped with landing nets. Their mission: to catch as much floating waste as possible.
The daily work of the Brigade Bleue, and the regular assistance of Écho Mer volunteers, helps to limit the visual impact of this pollution, but also and above all to combat the poisoning of underwater life, which is very much present beneath the pontoons.
The urban location of the Vieux Port's basins makes them ideal receptacles for urban waste, brought in by wind and rainwater runoff, as well as unfortunate incivilities. Plastic packaging, glass and plastic bottles, cigarette butts, cigarette pack wrappers and, more recently, a not inconsiderable quantity of protective masks are collected. The movements of the lock gates also bring their share of detritus brought in by the tides.
