Catch as much floating waste as possible!
The team of volunteers from the EchoMer association lends a hand to the Blue Brigade of the Port, by surveying the pontoons equipped with landing nets.

Echo-Mer is an association for the protection of the seas and the coastal environment. Since 2001, we have been organizing collections of used materials, such as boat sails, corks, or oyster bags, to give them a second life. We also carry out educational actions aimed at schoolchildren, but also at the general public, by organising events to raise awareness of eco-citizen actions.

Since the spring of 2020, twice a week, a team of volunteers from the EchoMer association lend a hand to the Blue Brigade of the Port, by surveying the pontoons equipped with landing nets. Their mission : to fish out as much floating waste as possible.
The daily work of the Blue Brigade, and the regular help of the Echo Mer volunteers enables them to limit both the visual impact of this pollution, but also and above all to fight against the poisoning of the underwater life, which is very much present under the pontoons.
The urban location of the basins of the Vieux Port make them privileged receptacles for urban waste, brought in by the wind and the run-off of rainwater, as well as the unfortunate incivilities. Thus plastic packaging, glass and plastic bottles, cigarette butts, cigarette pack wrappers and more recently a considerable quantity of protective masks are recovered. The movements of the lock doors also bring their share of rubbish brought by the tides.
