The church of Angoulins sur Mer is a magnificent composition of architecture that offers an impressive view even from a distance. Built in the 15th century, this church still contains many remains and its history fascinates many.
The church is mentioned for the first time in the year 1002. The church of St. Peter can be divided into three stages of construction:
- A primitive Romanesque church, of which there are still vestiges on the outside of the south wall. It was probably heavily damaged during the fighting of the Hundred Years War.
- A Gothic part, the lower church, built in the continuation of the Romanesque at the beginning of the 15th century.
- A last Gothic part extending the primitive Romanesque church at the end of the 15th century. The fortifications of the Chevet date from this period. The present entrance door dates from the middle of the 18th century. It was the end of the 19th century that gave the present interior.

The lower part of the church can be visited free of charge by appointment with Angoulins Découverte (05 46 56 92 09)
