The history of La Rochelle from the Middle Ages to the present day sung and told by Jean-Marc Desbois.

In ancient times, it was said that my city was inhospitable, covered with marshes, swept by the wind, and that no living soul could ever settle there; it was even said that this region, left out of civilization, could only be inhabited by a native population, miserable and harmless, who lived obscurely by fishing on the beaches of the ocean and on the edge of the marshes.
One stormy evening, a flash of lightning fell before my eyes on a small rock called "RUPELLA".
That day, I was given a mission: to tell and prove to the world that my city was one of the most welcoming and that all foreigners were welcome "great runners, adventurers of all kinds, tourists on a hike, citizens and bourgeois".

My name is JEAN DE LA ROCHELLE and I welcome you to my
welcome to my noble city.

Jean-Marc Desbois was born in La Rochelle (Poitou-Charentes) to a modest family, a father who was a controller at the Régie des Autobus de la Ville and a mother who raised five children (one girl and four boys). He went to the Notre-Dame de La Rochelle school where he made his first vocalizations in the choir of the Fédération Française des Petits Chanteurs.
After several attempts at learning an instrument, it was the classical guitar that became a real passion for him. He studied the guitar for ten years with Claude Foray, who was then an oboe teacher at the La Rochelle Conservatory.
Still at the conservatory of La Rochelle, he worked on classical singing with Jeannette Jourde and Hervé Caresmel, without forgetting Nadine Normand, his current coach.
But the demon of the song watches over him and it is by discovering the greatest, on television (in particular JACQUES BREL) that the click occurs.
Rigour of execution and presence on stage were the first weapons of his success, his warm and serious voice marries wonderfully poetry and irony, charm and conviction, variety and tradition.
